Concrete Polishing is the process of transforming a plain concrete slab from drab to fabulous. A polished concrete is also called a no-wax concrete because of its luster and shine. It involves several grinding process. The grinding process involves the use of several types of discs that becomes coarser as the process takes place. These grinding discs have the capacity to remove from light coatings, stains and loose aggregates to heavy ones.

Almost all commercially available concretes are good candidates for concrete polishing. A newly placed concrete should be left to settle for 28 days prior to polishing. The surface of the concrete needs to be well prepared by removing dirt, dust and stains prior to concrete polishing. Concretes that are too porous may not be good candidates for concrete polishing. This problem may be solved as some floor contractors put concrete hardeners that ultimately fill in the gaps on porous concrete, leaving a hardened surface.

Polished concrete is very economical as there is no need for frequent waxing since the concrete has a natural shine and gloss that can be easily maintained through regular application of commercially available polishing conditioners. It is also very easy to clean because a simple mopping or wiping of a damp cloth can easily clean the polished concrete surface.

Polished concrete is a high option in areas such as industrial offices and manufacturing plants where a high level of human traffic and flooring with high tensile strength is needed to support heavy machineries. The strength that a polished concrete posses is an ideal candidate for these kind of areas.

Polished concrete is not only advisable on these areas but it can also be seen on buildings, hospitals, churches, schools, hotels, institutions, etc. The benefits that one can get from a polished concrete floor make it an excellent choice for everyone.
